substance use + addiction

I seek to create a safe, professional refuge for you to learn about your pattern of using or drinking and to explore the path to healing that feels right for you. Recognizing substance use as a complex condition that’s unique for each person, I take an eclectic approach that incorporates decades of research from neuropsychology, mindfulness, and harm reduction.

I also work with family members impacted by a loved one’s substance use, focusing on understanding addiction, connecting with resources, and coping.


traumatic experiences

Trauma and other common adverse life experiences (what are those?) can leave painful legacies and keep us stuck in patterns of fear or dysfunctional behaviors that hold us back from living life the way we want. Whether you’ve experienced a single, terrible event, a pattern of mistreatment or abuse, or even long-standing difficult and painful relationships with family, the impact on you doesn’t have to remain so heavy.

One way I work with trauma is by using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based, extensively researched therapy that offers a different approach to treatment by engaging your brain’s natural healing process. Learn more about EMDR here.


not feeling like enough

From the time we enter this world, we receive countless messages about our worth and who we ‘should’ be from those around us and society. Chronic feelings of self-doubt and low self-worth can lead to anxiety, depression, unsatisfying relationships, distress at work, and to an exhausting sense of always needing to ‘do more’ just in order to feel like we’re enough. The complex problems facing our world, including climate change, can exacerbate this feeling.

Our work together can help you to better understand where these internal drives come from, define for yourself what you value and how to move toward what is really meaningful, and improve your ability to view yourself with acceptance and compassion so that you can move through life with greater confidence and resilience.

My rate is $180 per 50-minute session (read more about insurance here). I am occasionally able to offer a sliding scale fee based on your unique financial situation.
